State of Hawaii’s Most Up-to-Date Information about COVID
Aloha!
Yes…we’re going to talk about it because when it comes to Covid…everything is fluid! So here’s the latest and most up to date information and restrictions for the State of Hawaii!
Whether You are a returning resident or a visitor to the Hawaiian Islands, we want to ensure that all travelers remain safe and healthy. Hawai‘i’s five-day (number of required days changed on January 3, 2022) mandatory self-quarantine remains in place for only domestic travel from the U.S. and its Territories. Travelers entering the state who have been fully vaccinated may bypass quarantine without a pre-travel test. The vaccination record document must be uploaded to Safe Travels and printed out prior to departure and the traveler must have a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaiʻi. The State of Hawai‘i will also accept vaccine records that are digitally validated by Digital Health Pass Partners (AZOVA, CLEAR and CommonPass). Travelers who use one of the State’s partners to link their digitally validated vaccine records with Safe Travels may enjoy expedited processing at the airport (no secondary visual inspection of paper vaccine records).
The State of Hawai‘i is in alignment with federal international requirements for passengers flying directly into Hawai‘i from an international destination and there are no additional State of Hawaiʻi requirements. The airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the U.S. International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawai‘i.
Travelers from the U.S. or its Territories NOT participating in Safe Travels MUST quarantine for five days (number of required days changed on January 3, 2022) or the length of your stay, whichever is shorter.
It is important that travelers consider the duration and considerable expense of possible quarantine before embarking.
Individuals arriving from the U.S. or its Territories who are fully vaccinated may enter Hawaiʻi without pre-travel testing/quarantine starting the 14th day after the completion of their vaccination. The vaccination record document must be uploaded onto Safe Travels and printed out prior to departure and the traveler must have a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaiʻi.
The pre-travel testing program remains available for all travelers from the U.S. or its Territories who are NOT vaccinated.
Travelers from the U.S. and its Territories who board a plane on the final leg of their trip to the Hawaiian Islands without first securing a negative test within 72 hours before departure from a Trusted Testing and Travel Partner will be subject to mandatory quarantine.
The state of Hawai‘i will ONLY accept Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) lab test results from TRUSTED TESTING AND TRAVEL PARTNERS, and Digital Health Pass Partners AZOVA, CLEAR and CommonPass. Travelers will not be able to obtain a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) upon arrival at any Hawaiʻi airport.
The negative test result must be uploaded to Safe Travels or printed out prior to departure and a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawai‘i.
Travelers from the U.S. or its Territories must create an online account on the State of Hawai‘i’s Safe Travels Hawai‘i website and enter your trip information. If you are applying for a vaccination exception, a pre-travel test exemption, or any other exemption, you will upload the appropriate documentation to your account.
Adults traveling with children will add their children to their account. The State of Hawai‘i is in alignment with federal international requirements and there are no additional requirements for passengers flying directly to Hawaiʻi from an international destination. Some airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the United States. International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawai‘i. Please check with your carrier. Otherwise, you will be screened upon landing in Hawai‘i.
All incoming Hawaii travelers will have their temperature checked upon arrival. Temperature scans will be taken via thermal temperature screening and facial-imaging technology. Photos are only temporarily retained for persons with elevated temperatures of 100.4 degrees F and above to help airport representatives identify them and conduct additional assessments.
Should travelers have a temperature of 100.4 degrees F or higher or display COVID-19 symptoms, they will be required to complete a secondary screening at the airport performed by trained health care staff.
Well…we know that’s a lot of information and if you have any other questions or concerns about the Rules and Regulations for the State of Hawaii, please feel free to send us a message at info@alwaysalohatravel.com and we’ll try to answer any and all questions! MAHALO!
