Aloha!!
Ok…so anyone that knows me can tell you how much I LOVE chocolate! But my love for sweets doesn’t stop there! But before I go off on some tangent about all the goodies you can find around the island, I want to mention two places! The first is Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate in Lahaina. The chocolate is made there and the rooftop tasting area has spectacular ocean views! Great place to enjoy some delicious chocolate and do some whale watching since it’s the season!
The chocolate farm called Hana Gold Cacao Plantation is located in Hana! Two totally different places but both producing some onolicious island chocolate! Hana Gold grows their cacao on property which is then made into some of the best chocolate in Hawaii! I would highly recommend stopping by on your journey to Hana! A tasty treat is always well deserved!
Alright…let’s talk about other treats around the island other than chocolate! My favorite place to get my sugar fix is in the beautiful town of Makawao. Along Baldwin Avenue is a quant little spot where you can see elves and a girl named Mitzi aka The Maui Cookie Lady! This girl knows a COOKIE!! She bakes up some amazing cookies and it’s hard to decide which ones you want!! Within her store she sells other treats that aren’t cookies but I can only attest to how amazing her cookies are…they are out of this world! Bring a canned good and she’ll give you 10% off. She then donates all that stuff to the folks who need it on our island! So make sure to stop by and try her cookies!
Across the street is the Komoda Bakery. These folks have been in business for a long time and you’ll understand why when you get there! Let’s just say if there’s no line…there’s no grindz! They can get your mouth drooling with the display of all the baked goods they offer! Anything you get is sure to please your belly! But if there’s no line…you are most likely out of luck! That came straight from one of the ladies that works there! The earlier you can arrive, the better off you’ll be at snagging some sugary delights!
If we head down the mountain towards Kahului, you’ll end up driving to another town called Wailuku. This is where Stillwell’s Bakery is located. I wish I visited this place more because everything they make is delicious! Pastries, baked goods, food and so much more! So if you’re on your way to Iao Valley or just cruising around, stop by Stillwell’s Bakery! You won’t be disappointed!
If you’re on the south side of the island on Kihei Road you have to stop by the Cinnamon Roll Place! Look for the brown van with a cinnamon roll in it to guide your way! These cinnamon rolls are a little outrageous in size and I always like to share mine! Don’t forget to get the macadamia nuts and the frosting!
Next we’re going to head to the west side of the island towards Lahaina. In between Ma’alaea and Lahaina is a town called Oluwalu where Leoda’s is located! Not only do they bake amazing pies, their food is delicious too! Definitely come with an empty stomach and you’ll leave very happy! Calling ahead of time during certain times of the day can be key to avoiding the line of hungry people!
If you make a right out of Leoda’s you’ll be going towards Lahaina! This is my absolute favorite dessert on the island!!! The World Famous Hula Pie!!! You can get a slice of this goodness at three different restaurants on the island! First is Kimo’s on Front Street where you can dine along the water! Gorgeous view and a fabulous menu! Next is Leilani’s in Whaler’s Village! A great restaurant to dine indoor or outdoor! But whatever you do, make sure you finish with a piece of Hula Pie! Last stop for the pie is Leilani’s neighbor in Whaler’s Village Hula Grill! I recommend eating outside in the barefoot dining area! So cool to have your toes in the sand enjoying a great meal! But once again…Don’t forget the Hula Pie!
Wherever you’re staying on Maui, driving to the west side is never boring because there’s so much beautiful scenery along the way and you can whale watch too during December-April! Some say the west side is the best side-either way get out there and eat some SWEETS!!
Aloha!
